Consumer

A “consumer” is someone who purchases goods and services for personal use.  State and federal laws are design to protect consumers from illegal and/or unfair business practices.  Despite that, businesses will still sometimes cross the line from fair to unfair (or legal to illegal), and a consumer’s rights are violated.  The most common violations (generally speaking) relate to automobiles or credit.  Auto violations include car repossessions, dealer fraud, odometer errors, and lemon law violations.  Credit violations include unfair debt collection practices or harassment, inaccurate credit reporting, identity theft, and violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
